Quick answer: In a Grand Prix the top ten score points: 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1. In a sprint the top eight score 8 down to 1. A team's score is the total of both its drivers, which decides the constructors' championship.

The bonus point for the fastest lap was dropped from 2025.

Sprint points

On sprint weekends, the Saturday sprint gives 8 points to the winner, then 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 down to eighth. With 10 sprint weekends in 2027, that is up to 80 extra points for one driver. See what is a sprint race.

Shortened races

If a race is stopped early and cannot restart, points depend on how much of the distance was completed. Very short races may give no points at all, and races that pass certain distance thresholds give a reduced scale. A race that reaches 75% of its distance gives full points.

Ties

If two drivers finish level on points, the one with more wins ranks higher. If that is equal, the number of second places decides, and so on.

The constructors' championship

Both drivers score for their team in every race and sprint. That is why a strong second driver matters so much. McLaren won the 2025 constructors' title with this combined score. Meet every team in the 2026 F1 grid.
