Why you should watch Netflix Drive to Survive season 4 and what to expect - Fueler store

Drive to Survive has been a brilliant series for Formula One, showing new fans the politics and excitement of what goes on behind the scenes in the most expensive sport in the world. With Drive to Survive season four debuting very soon, why not find out a little more about the series and what may be coming up in season four.

What is Drive to Survive

Drive to Survive debuted in March 2019, with ten episodes detailing the 2018 F1 season. Since then, the show has become massively successful, with Netflix and F1 renewing their deal for a fourth season of Drive to Survive which will cover the 2021 season. At the moment, it is unconfirmed as to whether the series will continue, but considering the show’s popularity, I don’t think Netflix will want to stop production.

The series give Formula One fans an in depth look at pretty much every team on the grid, as well as giving some more details about some of the most dramatic moments throughout the Formula One season. It also gives fans a look into the paddock, with team bosses and drivers giving their view of events throughout the season.

What has happened so far in Drive to Survive

Season 1 detailed the 2018 Formula One season, with every team featuring at some point. Season 1 covers Daniel Ricciardo’s surprise move to Renault at the end of the 2018 season, Fernando Alonso’s struggles at McLaren and all of the fallout from Vijay Mallya’s arrest and the sale of Force India to Lawrence Stroll.

Season 2 covers the 2019 F1 season, looking a lot more at Daniel Ricciardo in his first season with Renault after covering his move from Red Bull the previous year. Drive to Survive also looks at Ricciardo’s replacement Pierre Gasly and his eventual replacement Alex Albon as both struggle in the number two seat with Red Bull.

Season 3 is the probably the most interesting season of all, as it covers the Covid hit 2020 season that was thrust into chaos when the season opener in Australia was cancelled on the Friday of the weekend. From then on the season covers how teams deal with getting back on track in Austria in July of 2020. Towards the end of the season, Romain Grosjean’s fiery crash in Bahrain is covered in a lot of detail, with an entire episode dedicated to the crash and the incredible work of all of the people who helped to save Grosjean’s life.

So far, Drive to Survive has looked to create drama throughout F1 and find any bit of excitement that they can put into the series. There has been some brilliant storylines so far and that will surely continue considering the controversy throughout the 2021 Formula One season.

What to Expect in Season 4

The 2021 Formula One season turned out to be one of the best in the sports history. An intensely tight battle at the front of the grid will surely take up multiple episodes as Drive to Survive show the fallout from Lewis Hamilton an Max Verstappen’s crashes at Silverstone, Monza and Jeddah. There will also be a lot of coverage of the incredibly controversial end to the 2021 season, with Verstappen winning the championship on the final lap after some questionable decisions made by Michael Masi.

There are plenty of other dramatic moments throughout the 2021 season, with the McLaren 1-2 to be covered as well as Ocons’ win in Hungary. Fernando Alonso’s return to the sport will be involved and there is sure to be plenty of shots of the incredible pace of young guys like Pierre Gasly, George Russell and Lando Norris who have all featured heavily in the series already.

However, one quite important part of the 2021 F1 season will be missing from season 4, with Max Verstappen deciding not to take part in the series. Verstappen has said that he doesn’t like being part of it because the show has been accused of faking some rivalries in the past to create drama. Max clearly doesn’t like the dramatic element of the show and so has stayed away this season.
